Making a strong plea for the public to listen to the advice being given by the NHS regarding protecting ourselves and our loved ones from the Coronavirus (Covid-19), two nurses working long shifts wearing PPE, have used social media to shows the exhaustion and physical stress of the work pressures they are under.
Ignoring self-isolation advice and panic buying is putting, is already putting strain on the NHS, even before we get anywhere near the peak of this virus. The lack of PPE amongst those on the frontline in the NHS has also in the last few days resulted in two doctors treating patients with the Covid-19 virus, to become infected and having to be on ventilators themselves! Dr Silvey shared the image at the end of a nine-hour shift working with critically ill patients, saying it had left her feeling “broken”: She wrote: “This is the face of someone who just spent 9 hours in personal protective equipment moving critically ill Covid19 patients around London. She admitted that the stress of what she witnessed on her shift had left her a “crying mess”, the doctor begged people to heed the government’s social distancing advice. Other NHS staff then posted similar images and statements in support of her efforts to publicise the aawful realities that NHS staff are facing every day now, which will become even worse once the virus has peaked. Emma Sterba, a critical care nurse wrote: “I feel your pain this was me last night on shift as a critical nurse when I went on my lunch hour after wearing a mask and all the gear and do you know what I wouldn’t be doing anything else! “Those red/purple marks across my face are from my mask and are deeper than you think. The devastating and shocking reality of treating Coronavirus is clearly etched into their faces in the images circulating on social media. Natalie Silvey, an anaesthetic registrar working in London, posted an exhausted selfie on Twitter yesterday evening showing her face with red and purple bruising left by the protective mask that she must wear for hours on end to safely treat people suffering from the highly contagious virus.
